Secondary English/Language Arts (ELA) Curriculum
About every seven years, school districts go through an adoption process for primary curriculum. This process is overseen by procurement code and state law. It involves creating a Request for Proposals (RFP) that is posted through a system called Periscope Source so that any company meeting the requirements can compete for the contract.
SLCSD has just completed the review process for a new 7-12 ELA curriculum. This process was conducted by a team of 18 educators, invited from every secondary school, and representing each grade level. Many members of the committee were also parents of students in the district.
Two (2) programs have passed the criteria established by the committee. The final determining factor for the awarding of the contract will be the cost of the program. The points for the program were arranged to award 75% for the curriculum aspects of the program and 25% for the cost of the program. As the curriculum points are all submitted, the cost is the final factor. The cost portion of the contract, which has been sealed, will be opened and the contract award made on March 8. This will determine the program that will be adopted for 7-12 English/Language Arts instruction in SLCSD.
The two programs are Study Sync published by McGraw-Hill and My Perspectives published by Savvas. If you would like to preview the two programs that made the final consideration, they are available to view at the District Office, 440 East 100 South, room 116.
